ENVIRONMENTAL SITE ASSESSMENT – PHASE I

The goal of a Phase I soil test is to assess and determine potential or actual sources of a contamination in the soil. Our team searches for potential sources of hazardous substances that may have affected the environmental condition of a given site. It is an essential step in the process of an environmental assessment of any site.

Steps to follow

Site Inspection

Request for access to information from the authorities

Consultation of titles at the Registry Office

Search for fire insurance plans

Study of aerial photographs

Interviews around the site

Examination of geological and hydrogeological maps

Identification of risk activities

Report writing with recommendations

SOIL TEST – PHASE II

This step is to characterize in greater detail the environmental condition and confirm the presence or demonstrate the absence of a contamination of a previously studied site during Phase I, whether it is at the ground or the water level, and if so, to specify the nature of the various contaminants.

Steps to follow

Planning of the sampling campaign

Location of underground infrastructure

Soil sampling

Groundwater and surface water sampling

Analysis of samples in the laboratory

Data Interpretation

ENVIRONMENTAL SITE CHARACTERIZATION – PHASE III

Phase III clarifies the extent of contamination detected during Phase II, and therefore determines the volume of contaminated soil (area, depth, volume, etc.).

ENVIRONMENTAL SITE REHABILITATION – PHASE IV

Rehabilitation is necessary in the case where the concentrations of contaminants detected in a given area exceed the use criteria defined by the MDDELCC.
This can be done either by disposing contaminated soils and waters in approved locations, or by doing what is called in-situ rehabilitation.
