Our mission is to identify, sample and analyze the hazardous materials likely to contain asbestos. After those steps, we provide you with a detailed characterization report following the asbestos analysis. In addition, you will receive recommendations from our experts on the measures to take to secure or remove them from sites. This report is used to meet the requirements of the  CNESST regulations and protocols and standards in force.

VERMICULITE ANALYSIS

The vermiculite known under the trade name zonolite is mainly located in attics, and may contain asbestos fibers harmful to the health. This is why Health Canada, as part of the vermiculite analysis, issued an opinion in 2004. This opinion recommends that professionals take and analyze three samples of this insulation.

VERY IMPORTANT

The scientific results of the vermiculite analysis is distorted if the samples are mixed in one bag, as the asbestos will be diluted. This is why, the three samples must be taken by an experienced professional, in isolation, and placed in a bag each.

ASBESTOS TESTING ON CONSTRUCTION MATERIALS (WALLS, CEILINGS…)

The list of materials likely to contain asbestos is very long. Only a detailed inspection can identify them in a building. To check whether a material contains asbestos or not, do not hesitate to contact one of our expert today. We will do our best to advise you.

ASBESTOS INSPECTION: FLOCKING AND INSULATION

Flocking and thermal insulation should be checked while doing an asbestos inspection  to determine whether or not it contains asbestos. Their identification and location in the building is mandatory since the application of the new regulatory provisions relating to the safe management of asbestos that came into force on June 6, 2013.

  • FLOCKING

Flocking is a mixture of brittle materials applied by spraying to cover a surface, most often for thermal insulation purposes.

  • INSULATION

Insulation is a material that covers an installation or equipment, often pipes, to prevent heat loss.

ASBESTOS AIR TESTING

It is strongly recommended to perform an asbestos air test to control the air quality following a remediation phase of a building ready for renovation or demolition.

Asbestos-free materials

  • Materials such as: wood, natural stone, marble, sandstone, glass, plastic and metals
  • Gypsum board and joint compounds manufactured by North American companies since January 1, 1980
  • Flocking installed in buildings and civil engineering works since February 15, 1990
  • Heat insulators installed in buildings and civil engineering works since May 20, 1999

Asbestos, what effects on health?

Thanks to the many qualities possessed by asbestos (thermal and sound insulation, resistance to wear and heat), it has been used extensively in the construction sector in Quebec. Asbestos is a natural mineral fiber, which could cause serious illness (breathing problems, cancer, etc.)  when  inhaled. All occupants of a contaminated building in contact with asbestos, are subject to major risks to their health.

Asbestos fibers are 400 to 2000 times smaller than a hair, and therefore very difficult to eliminate by the body. However, they penetrate to the pulmonary alveoli when a person inhales. An increasing number of diseases are generated because of asbestos.

To prevent these health risks, the Quebec regulations  provide that all buildings with a collective employee presence must be inspected in order to locate asbestos flocking for buildings built before the 15th. February 1990, and asbestos-containing insulation for those built before May 20, 1999.
